Singing about the birth of a baby is recognizing the miracle of life and the infinite hope we experience in that moment when we sense the miraculousness of life. At this time of year, when the days are so short and the nights so long and dark, these carols are here to remind us that soon, the days will be getting longer again. And as the sun stays out longer and longer, the earth will also warm up, and the trees, flowers, and everything - in even the smallest and darkest corners - will come to life again. The miraculousness of life, the purity of that moment of hope, is something worth celebrating. So at this time of year I sing these carols as anthems of hope.
